U.S. Patents

Developing and protecting a patent portfolio should be an integral part of any business plan, whether you are a start-up working out of your garage or a multi-national, publicly traded company. As the largest market in the world, U.S. patents must be a key part of that portfolio.

We work with our clients to understand their needs and prepare a realistic plan for protecting their inventions in a way that will provide a real and tangible competitive advantage.

There are three different types of patents which may be issued by the United Patent & Trademark Office.  We can help you figure out the best approach for your business:

  • Utility patents may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof.
  • Design patents may be granted to anyone who invents a new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture.
  • Plant patents may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers and asexually reproduces any distinct and new variety of plant.
